How is the score calculated in a performance evaluation?

In the configuration instance, the administrator can enable the score evaluation option. This option allows for generating a final grade in the evaluation of employees.

Some clarifications about this feature:

  • To activate scoring in an evaluation cycle, there must be at least one score-type question in the template defined for the downward evaluation.
  • The only questions that will impact this grade are the score-type questions found in the downward direction template.
  • Regardless of the directions configured for the cycle, only the responses given by the direct supervisors of the evaluated will impact the final grade.

Within this score configuration screen, there are a series of specific options:

  • Directions

When creating the cycle, in the Scoring configuration step, the administrator will have the option to enable or disable the different evaluation directions, allowing them to decide which ones they want to calculate the score for and which ones they don't.

  • Weighted Scoring

By default, weights are distributed equally across all score-type questions, but it is possible to assign a different weight to each one within the weighting configuration. The weight of all questions must add up to 100%.

  • Configurable Scale

The administrator user can choose the scale they want the final result to be represented in by selecting one of the options available in the system.

By default, the final grade result scale will depend on the scales of the score-type questions contained in the template. For example, if the template has 3 score-type questions evaluated from 1 to 5, then the final result will be between 1 and 5.

If the score-type questions have different scales, the system will normalize the scale, and the final result will always be from 1 to 10.

  • Hidden Results

The administrator can decide whether they want the evaluation scores to be shown to employees. If this option is enabled, only administrators and leaders will be able to see the results.

Score Calculation without Objectives

For the calculation of the evaluated score, the following is considered:

  • A weight is assigned to each response for each question. Example for 5 responses:

    Response Response Weight (%)
    1 0%
    2 25%
    3 50%
    4 75%
    5 100%

  • This weight is converted according to the scale, considering the possible minimum and maximum values. This way, we have the value of each question:

  • Considering the value of each question and its weight, the final calculation is made:

Score Calculation with Objectives

If the evaluation template includes objectives, the user can define the weight that the set of objectives will have on the performance evaluation. That is, on the final weight of an evaluation, the objectives could have, for example, a 70% impact, and the rest of the questions 30%, making up 100% of the total. By default, the distribution is equal: 50% objectives and 50% questions (score-type).

To calculate the score of a manual objective, the same formula used for score-type questions is applied, where each response has a determined weight, and the maximums and minimums depend on the defined scale.

Finally, for the final calculation of the composite evaluation, the weights of the sections (Questions and Objectives) are also considered:
